SONI BARRUS
(Widow Douglas/Sally Phelps)
Throughout the 50 plus years she's been in theater, there have been few shows whose power and content have spoken more to her on a personal level...but Big River is certainly one of those. She feels honored to give voice to this story and the heart-lifting music. Having played both the Widow Douglas and Miss Watson," it has been a breathe of fresh air to play Aunt Sally." Playing small but interesting characters is something that has been her pleasure including Grandma Tzitel from Fiddler on the Roof ,Mrs. Medlock in Secret Garden, Mrs.Pringle in last seasons Kiss and Tell, Vida Louise in Harvey. As a dear friend once said, play the small roles and hopefully people will be sitting in their seats hoping you'll come back and give 'um more.
